Profile & Natural History
Axolotls are the hobby's cold-water revelation: no heater, ever — summer room temperatures are the emergency (fans, chillers for hot climates). The husbandry is aquarium-science: cycled tank, gentle filtration, frequent water changes, and sand or barebottom (gravel impactions are the classic fatality). They regenerate limbs and organs, live 10–15 years, and eat earthworms with the enthusiasm of the eternal toddler. Critically endangered in the wild — captive care matters.
