Husbandry standards evolve: UVB science in particular has revised recommendations repeatedly (minimum output zones, melanism risks). Verify against current species-specific literature and a reptile veterinarian — older care sheets, including printed ones, often lag.

Wild-caught animals, threatened species, and regional legal restrictions (permits, bans) are real considerations this database does not cover. Never release captive reptiles; never take wild animals without permits.

Accuracy of calculations

We implement well-known, publicly documented formulas (see the methodology section on each calculator page and published husbandry standards and veterinary herpetology guidance as applicable). Even correctly implemented formulas produce estimates that depend on your inputs and assumptions. Real-world outcomes vary. Do not rely on a single web tool for a consequential decision.
