Profile & Natural History

Tortoises are land-decisions, not tanks: leopard tortoises graze grasses and weeds (protein-heavy lettuce causes pyramiding and shell deformity), need serious UVB or genuine sunlight, and live 50+ years — frequently outliving the purchase. Outdoor grazing pens in suitable climates are the gold standard; indoor keepers build the biggest enclosures in herpetology. Hatchling humidity matters more than folklore says — dry-reared hatchlings pyramid.
