Profile & Natural History

Russians are the entry tortoise because they stay small (8–10 inches), tolerate temperature swings (steppe animals), and eat the weeds your yard already grows (dandelion is their steak). They are champion diggers — substrate depth or buried pen barriers are mandatory. Hibernation (brumation) is part of their natural cycle for healthy adults — a topic for veterinary guidance, not winging it.
